Chopsticks is a popular children’s piece written by Euphemia Allen, a sixteen year old British girl. It was first published in 1877 under the name Arthur de Lulli.  The title refers to the chopping sound created by the double notes of the right hand. The glissandos add flair to the simple tonic – dominant harmonies utilized by the left hand waltz accompaniment. This appealing work has been popularized in movies, cartoons and on stage - to the delight of all audiences.
