The Lorelei Suite was written for a one-act ballet which retells the legend of the Lorelei (mermaids whose siren songs lure sailors to dangerous waters and shipwrecks). The main characters in this ballet are mermaids, sailors and three townswomen: Sylvia (the Admiral's wife), Teresa (a young engaged to be married) and Sheila (a mystic).
